african cup of nations | liveblog

It’s the first Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, with The Black Stars taking on the Indomitable Lions. Ghana 0-1 Cameroon ——————–Nkong 70′ Semifinal Date: Thursday, February 7th Venue: Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra Kick-off: 17:00 GMT -Laurie will be LiveBlogging the second semi-final in an hour so, when Cote d’Ivoire take on Egypt to see who joins Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations final. -Big thanks to everyone for reading and commenting. Today’s WCB Man of the Match: Rigobert Song. Was a rock in defence. Today’s WCB CrazyMan of the Match: Andre Bikey, who will now miss the final through suspension. -Ghana are stunned. The crowd are stunned. I’m a bit stunned too. Essien and Le Roy are taking the defeat like men and shaking lots of hands. FULL-TIME Cameroon go through 1-0 after a wacky finale. 90+ He gets a new ball and blazes it over the cross bar. Oh dear. 90+ Barruso goes down under a challenge from Alex Song. Free kick for Ghana. Now they want the ball changed. 90+ Otto Pfister arguing with a CAF representative now. Four minutes of stoppage time. 90′ Ander Bikey just came charging in and pushed one of the first aid guys to the ground! Mental-ness. He’s sent off. What’s going on? 89′ Rigobert Song is down after a collision with Kameni. 88′ Ghana can’t put a coherent attack together. 86′ Kameni making the most of a silly kick he got from Gyan. Shaving the seconds off the clock. 85′ Ayew off for Barusso. I would have loved to see Ayew bag the equaliser, but that’s not going to happen now. 83′ Looks like Essien is playing further forward now, but Ghana are just dumping long balls into Kameni’s hands. still 80′ So close! Agogo meets Muntari’s free kick and directs it only just over with his head. Only just. 80′ Alexandre Song brings down Dede Ayew. It’s as if the Song family is taking turns to foul him. 77′ Uncle Song missed a high through ball but Kameni came out to claim it just before Agogo could get there. 74′ Muntari’s free kick headed straight up in the air by Geremi. Takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to come back down but Agogo fouls Kameni when it does. - Ghana will go all out now. There’s no choice. - Cameroon broke from a Ghana corner, Nkong played a one-two with Eto’o and then stuck it past Kingson. Ghana didn’t deserve that. They’ve been all over Cameroon this half. 70 GOAL!!! Nkong makes it 1-0 to Cameroon. 69′ Muntari hits the wall but gets cross in from the rebound, which comes out to Ayew. His strike hits Geremi in the head and goes over. 67′ Song kicks a lump out of Ayew on the edge of the box. Here comes a Muntari free-kick. 64′ Gyan’s shot blocked by Rigobert Song. Alexendre’s uncle is pretty much the only thing between Ghana and a goal this half. 62′ Unlce Song gives Junior Agogo a good slide tackling. Risky but he got the ball. Corner to Ghana. It’s swung in, Bikey misses, but Painstil heads wide. 61′ Owusu-Abeyie comes off for B. Gyan, and looks very grumpy aout it. 59′ Annan strikes over from the edge of the box. He’s looked nice and composed today. Until he took that shot. 57′ Ayew holds of Eto’o with a couple of elbows. Good to see the youngster not over-awed by the legend. 55′ Eto’o looked like he’d received the ball in space but Essien just flung himself in front, got a toe on it and then fell on the ball. Essien not letting Eto’o out of his sight. 53′ Eto’o does some keepy-uppy and goes past a couple of Ghanaians. But his progress is sideways and he doesn’t get any help frim his teammates. 52′ Song back on, but limping. 50′ Looks like Essien has hurt Alex Song. Song tackles the Chelsea man, but as Essien tried to get the ball back he stepped on Song’s ankle. Then things got all twisty. 49′ Owusu-Abeyie tries to dribble through the entire Cameroon defence. To be fair he gets pretty far, going past two or three, but is dispossessed when four Cameroon players swarm around him. 47′ Alex Songs tries to catch Kingson just off his line, but it goes over. Kingson breathes a sigh of relief. 45′ Second half is underway. -Cameroon making a sub: Idrissou off and Epalle on. -Here they come. -Actually just Ghana so far. Are Cameroon coming back? -Teams are coming back out. HALF-TIME 0-0 at the break, but it’s coming to life. I’m expecting an exciting second half. 45+ Right on the half-time whiste, Ayew gets his head to a cross. But it’s too far behind him so Ayew has to lean back and can only connect with the top of his head and send it over the bar. 45+ Now Dramani beats Geremi, but Emana is back to tackle. 45 Muntari plays a scissor kick pass out to Dramani. Nice. Dramani tries to go past Geremi but winds up getting nutmegged by the Newcastle man instead. D’oh. 42′ Painstil sends an absolute horror of a pacy bouncy backpass to Kingson, who tries to volley it but gives away a corner. Easy John Paintsil, easy. -Have learned that the “bit of magic” I missed earlier (see 28′) was an Adre Ayew run and shot. Just so you know. 37′ Geremi hits a bendy free kick that hits the bit of the goalframe where post meets cross bar. Is there a name for that? Either way, great free-kick, unlucky not to score. 34′ Eric Addo pulls out a perfectly timed/very lucky slide tackle to dispossess Iddrisou. 33′ Essien knocks Eto’o down. Get used to it Samuel, The Bison is after you. 30′ Owusu-Abeyie twisting and turning, but there’s no way he was getting past Rigobert Song and Geremi. 28′ Just briefly lost the feed (my fault, I was clicking around when I shouldn’t have been) and when I got it back the commentator was saying “that’s the first bit of magic we’ve seen.” Doesn’t seem fair. 26′ One of Atouba’s famous long throws almost goes straight in. Kinson catches (he changed his gloves and is fine now.) Do throw-ins count if they go straight in? Pretty sure they don’t. 24′ Muntari meets the ball with a flying kick/volley but sends it into orbit. 20′ Emana fires way over. Very scrappy so far. 18′ Owusu-Abeyie wriggles down the right but nothing comes of it. Still waiting for O-U to justify all the fuss. Dramani then outpaces Rigobert Song but runs right into Kameni. 16′ Eto’o takes it instead and slams it straight into the wall. 15′ Geremi is about to take a free kick. If you saw his two goals you’d be scared. 13′ Dramani pulls out a couple of turns and draws both defenders and applause. 11′ Reserve keeper Sammy Adjei gets off the bench but doesn’t look too enthusiatic. Then he sits back down. If I had the chance to get into today’s game I’d be bouncing up and down like a puppy. 10′ Richard Kingson down with a whack, possibly sustained in a challenge with Emana. Samuel Eto’o Samiratanly helps him out but Kingson is struggling with his left arm. 5′ Addo has a great chance to meet a Muntari free kick, but somehow fails. 3′ Seems Asamoah Gyan has lost his battle with fitness and/or form, so 18-year-old Adrew Dede Ayew gets a start. Big ocassion for a young man. Other news is that Michael Essien is playing in defence, so we have Essien in direct competition with Samuel Eto’o today. 0′ And we’re off! Lineups: Cameroon: Kameni; Geremi, Song, Bikey, Atouba; Emana, Song Billong, Mbia; Job, Eto’o, Idrissou Ghana: Kingson; Sarpei, Pantsil, Essien, Addo; Annan, Dramani, Kingston; Muntari, Agogo, Quincy - Anthems have been sung loud and proud and we’re getting ready to go.
